Event Details

This event will be virtual over Zoom and Facebook Live!

We invite community members of the Monona and Madison area to join us for an afternoon with Michael Johnson, President and CEO of Boys and Girls Club of Dane County to celebrate local Black History. As Michael emphasizes, "Sometimes we focus so much on slavery and the civil rights movement that we forget to share accomplishments achieved by African Americans in our own backyard."

Michael will share his documentary, "A History of Black Madison" developed in partnership with Boys and Girls Club of Dane County and Madison365, and The Capital Times, and will discuss three key figures of Black History in the area. Michael will also cover current topics regarding social justice and will provide tangible steps you can take to get involved and make a difference in your community, your workplace, and at home.

Not only will this program be an excellent resource for community members, but it will also serve as a fantastic professional development opportunity for local organizations and businesses. At the end of Michael's presentation and viewing of his documentary, there will be time for questions from registered participants via chat, moderated by library staff.

This event is brought to you by Beyond the Page: supporting Dane County public libraries by connecting and engaging our community through programs that celebrate our individual and collective human experiences. More information at: https://www.beyondthepage.info/
